Bitter Sweet Memories

I have to start this post with what just happened about an hour ago...my Doodle Bug is walking!  It is depressing, exciting, aging, and magical all at the same time!  Depressing because I can't believe she is already that big and walking.  This time last year she was almost a month old :(.  Exciting because it starts a new chapter in our home with two official toddlers and some new adventures.  Aging because I know I'm 23 but I feel so old seeing how fast my girls are growing.  Magical because well, a baby learning how to walk and the screams of excitement just is flat out magical.  I have my work cut out for me tomorrow and Bud was like, "babe I feel sorry for you tomorrow, you are going to be so busy, but can you believe it she's walking!" Really babe, did he just tell me something that I have been dreading.  Guys for ya huh! At least he knows I stay busy with the girls and don't sit on my hiney all day I guess...lol.

We did get our outside decorated, our Christmas tree up and go figure we did it in 80 degree weather.  REALLY LA! REALLY!  I will say it felt very weird decorating for Christmas in 80 degree weather in a t-shirt, flip flops, and a pair of jeans.  Bud wore a tank top and shorts hahahaha.  I didn't get any pictures because we were trying to get it done before the girls naps were over to surprise them.  When they are old enough to help without getting hurt, then it will be a whole family activity.  Until then
we will stick with letting them decorate their tree.  I sure do hope our weather gets back to the 40's and 50's that was so nice.  Especially since we spent $100 on a truck load of wood and the very next day it was 78 degrees.  That stunk!

The other new thing we have going on is a friend of my is starting to sale Mary Kay and she was my best Avon customer when I it and so I'm helping her out.  I went to a Mary Kay make over party last night and had fun and then ended up getting signed up to host a party for her...lol.  So next Saturday we are having a party at my house.  So if anyone would like to buy some Mary Kay products and need a rep, you can go to her website and order and it can be shipped to you!  MaryKay.com/StephSanders.  She really is a dear friend and my next door neighbor and would appreciate the smallest thing.  After all she was one of my biggest customers so the least I can do is return the favor.

This week our plans are:

  • Monday-finished scrubbing my house
  • Tuesday- Ran all my errands childless, because the girls were at Bud's parents the first half of the day, and my parents get them every Tuesday night.  Is it weird running simple errands childless is exciting.
  • Wednesday-Finish all my laundry and go to my parents to help start cooking yummy dinner for turkey day
  • Thursday-Family day and RELAXING!!!!!
  • Friday- Bud is off, YAY!, and we are re-doing both bathrooms, our front bathroom has a small mold problem oh so fun, but besides new carpet our house will be almost done on the inside.  We want it done before summer so this summer we can get the outside where we want it. ;) Thats the plan anyways we will see what happens there hahaha
  • Saturday-Bathrooms again
  • Sunday-Church, Family, preparing ourselves for the coming up week!

I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving with your families or someone special!  Hope to be back soon! Enjoy the pics!  Goodnight all!

Holiday Season approaches, School work, and sick little ones

So yes it is still touch and go with posting I'm sorry so here is a very very quick run down of what we have been up to.

School: They have put a huge load of school work on us because the 1st semester is almost over! WHOOOOOHOOOOO! Finals are in two weeks, so lots of homework plus eye crossing studying.

The girls:  They are doing very well...Doodle Bug did have to go the doctor yesterday because she has been running fever and feeling so crummy she just wanted to be held all day.  Verdict is... flu like virus...today she was feeling much better and no fever so I'm very thankful.  Punkin of course is doing great with the exception of back tracking on potty training and I'm running out of things to do about it.  She was doing so well and for months completely potty trained, even sleeping in her big girl panties with no accidents.  The past few weeks however, she has constant accidents and when you ask her why she says because I wanted to.  GRRRR! I have tried the time outs, making her sit in it, (which didn't not last long because thats gross), taking toys away, I even took a gymnastics class away!  I am running out of options.  Any ideas?

Holidays: We are officially one week away from Thanksgiving!  We put up our Christmas tree that day!  Well the girls already have theirs up in the playroom its a new thing we are doing.  See I love fake trees and colored lights, maybe I am weird, Bud loves real trees and white lights.  Our old compromise was that he got the real tree and had to vacuum and I got my colored lights.  Well we have a lot of hand me down decorations and we have decided this is the year we would treat ourself and get new ones.  So the new thing is the girls have a fake pink 3.5ft Christmas tree with colored lights with the kid ornaments on it and in our living room we will have our 7ft real tree with white lights and only cross ornaments on it.  I can't wait to get it next week and put it up.  We are DONE shopping minus the candy for the stockings and each other.  We wait to get each others with his Christmas bonus, but I have gotten him one gift already...shhh...I love Christmas and no matter what is going on its usually easy for us to keep a smile on our face.  OH AND IT IS FINALLY COLD! YAY! we have also been enjoying our fireplace....so nice!

Hope all is well, I will definatley be able to catch up on everyones blogs next week with Thanksgiving break!  I can't believe my first semester of school is already almost over!

GOODNIGHT ALL!

The girls tree; each year they get a new ornament.  When they are old enough to have their own tree they will have a good collection of their own ornaments.

Got fancy this year with the ribbons we always do one wrapping paper.

Operation Christmas Child: this is something I have done since middle school, we do one box per child to teach them about giving to the less fortunate!  This is our family weekend project!  I'm so excited to get them involved with this amazing project.

Some Fall Fun!

So this weekend was Halloween and I have never been big on Halloween but its still fun for the girls and passing out candy so we had some fun this weekend.

Growing up I maybe actually went trick or treating maybe a handful of times.  My church always had a fall carnival that we attended complete with a pony ride, hay ride, games, cake walks, face painting and tons of candy.  I do not attend that church anymore I attend another one that has a fall Festival as well and we have taken the Punkin every year.  Her first and second Halloween she went to the church I grew up in and This year she went to our new church.  Last year nobody got to go because Doodle Bug was only 5 days old, so we took Punkin to her grandparents to trick or treat.  This year we did the Fall Family Fun Fest at church on Friday and a short run of trick or treating on Sunday afternoon.

Friday we had a blast at our church; we enjoyed some games, family picture, puppet show, and some food.  We were going to take the hayride as well but the girls were getting cranky and it was past bedtime. On Sunday we took the girls to our parents neighborhoods (our parents live down the street from each other) and did a few houses over there and then came home for bedtime and passing out candy for our trick or treaters.  We had some interesting characters!  We also had a few that were teens not dressed up, well they said they were bums, and parents of small infants collecting candy for what seemed like themselves.  That kind of frustrated me a little but we did have a ton of super cute little toddlers that were adorable.  Punkin liked seeing all the non scary costumes too.

A short post but I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoy the pictures!

traveling with some small kiddos and staying organized!

Finally, I'm getting back on schedule and getting some "free" time.  This is going to be a mixture of how we made traveling a little easier with two kids, small kids at that, and how a young mom who has lots to do stays organized!

First Traveling:

I have goggled and researched all I can to help make things a bit easier.  Now please understand that I am not a mom who follows all the books.  I might pull some things out of a book but I'm a little more old fashioned. Same when seeking advice.  I pick and pull what will fit my family, if it doesn't work I try something else.

First I start packing a week in advance.  Each of us have our own suitcase and we are color coded...I will admit I am OCD and proud of it!...Sometimes I may take it a little far but you know it helps that I'm so organized.

The girls are always color coded.  Punkin is purple, Doodle Bug is pink, I am purple and Pink, and Bud is blue and black.

Wherever we decide to go I call ahead and try to get weather reports, places to see, sleeping arrangements, eating places, and even rest stops are on the way.  I always add another hour to our road trips for potty breaks and letting the girls play for about half an hour.  This helps prevent melt downs.

We always try to leave either so early in the morning the girls go back to sleep, around nap, or around bed time.  When we leave early in the morning we pack up my truck the night before.  We only leave out clothes that we will wear the next morning.  I put the girls a blanket draped over their seats and have their favorite toy prepared sitting right next to them, so when we buckle them up (in pjs) all we have to do is let them fall right back asleep and hit the road.  If we leave at nap time, we pack the truck that morning and let the girls place their favorite toy in the car (this helps them know we are not leaving the toy).  I also prepare each of the girls a lunch box with their favorite snacks.  We also pack a small ice chest with drinks, sandwich fixings, and the girls and Buds favorite lunch-ables.  This way we don't have to stop as much for food.  We can stop at a rest area and have a picnic and break out a ball and let the girls play.  Another thing we do to prevent melt downs is when we do stop to get gas or have a potty break we don't just stay 5-10 min like you would if it were just adults.  We refresh our snacks and drinks, everyone goes potty, and we will take a small walk or let the girls walk around to stretch their legs.  We turn a 5-10 stop into a 30 min stop.  Yes, it takes longer but, we get to stop less because they got to stretch their legs longer.  We also carry a potty chair in the very back of the truck.  This is gross, I know but when you have young kids when they have to go a bathroom is not always available.  If it is getting close to dinner or lunch we might even stop at a restaurant or McDonald's with a place place...it wears them out and then they sleep! :)

When we finally arrive at our destination we have a toddler travel bed, its a cot just like one for camping but a fitted sleeping back over it.  We have Disney Princess and you can get one off amazon.com.  I'm not sure what it is called exactly.  Then of course for Doodle Bug we have porta-crib.  We bring our own bedding and pillows and a travel size of laundry detergent, just in case!

The bags we bring and yes this looks like a lot but we are always glad we brought everything.

Front seat with girls: middle row
Ice chest
Lap top (movies) our dvd player broke and I can't see spending so much money on a new one
2 child lunch boxes
A bag of moves, clipboards (coloring) colors, color pages
baby, pony
diaper bag
small back pack for Punkin with a change of clothes
Leapster

Very Back of truck on top of third row:
porta crib
Porta bed
air mattress (depending on where we are going)
4 suitcases one per member
potty
one duffel bag of blankets and sheets
one bag of extra entertainment toys (games, princesses, my little ponies, etc)
Empty back for dirty clothes
emergency car kit (we have a pre-made one that we bought at the store complete with flares, first aid, fix a flat and jumper cables and a bunch of other stuff)
Jump box

Getting close to naptime!

Sleeping oh so sweet!

My OCD out of control, but I had no more room in my closet!

Now how I keep everything organized:

I have calendars everywhere, I can't live without them, sad to say.  I have one on the fridge for everyone to know whats going on along with the grocery list.  I have one in my purse, my planner/wallet, and one that stays on the desk that I keep open at all times and use constantly throughout the day.  They all pretty much say the same thing just one for on the go, one always at hand, and one for there to be no excuse for not knowing what is going on and when.  This part is just mostly a picture demonstration.

Doodle Bugs

Family Calendar a spot for all members and even the dogs

Grocery list; the rule is if its not on the list it doesn't get bought

My planner/wallet

Each day has two columns one side is for school and one for the house stuff

Filing station

Mail station

File drawer, for current items, there is a different one for paid off and taxes

My School Corner (no kids allowed)

I hope everyone is having a great day!
